From the owner
Why does it matter that the owner still runs this company?
Because the person accountable for your job is the same person whose name is on the truck. I did not start this company from a business plan. I started it out of necessity.
I had been painting for other people for the better part of twenty years before I started this. The schedule was semi consistent, but there were stretches every year where management simply did not call me in, and when my family needed me to be the one providing, semi consistent was not going to cut it. So I went out and flyered neighborhoods for pressure washing and small painting contracts. Business was slow at first. Every job I picked up built a little more confidence and a little more experience, and inside of a year we were not really a pressure washing company any more, we had turned into a residential repaint company.
Word of mouth grew. So did my family. At that point I had to figure out how to scale, and the rest of it is history from there.
We paint houses and businesses, but what we are actually selling our customers is peace of mind. We show up when and where we said we would. Craftsmanship is the easy part to promise. The harder part, and the part we hold ourselves to, is clear communication, sticking to the schedule, and getting out ahead of the problems that always come up on a job. That is as true on a kitchen repaint as it is on commercial painting in Orlando.
Color and the Florida sun
Which exterior colors actually hold up in the Florida sun?
Neutrals. Every paint fades eventually, but darker colors give up their color faster than neutral ones, and the better the paint the longer it holds on.
Sun exposure also changes what you see from one side of a house to the other. North facing walls hold their color better than the rest of the house because they take the least sun across the year. The north slope of a roof gets the dirtiest for the same reason. So the wall that still looks new and the roof slope that looks worst are often on the same side of the building, which throws people off when they are trying to judge whether it is time to repaint.
Start with the roof, not the swatch. The roof color sets the palette the house can actually wear. You do not want a black and white house sitting under a brown roof. Once the palette is settled, there is one detail worth asking any painter for: running the drip edge in a different color than the fascia adds a line to the elevation and makes the whole house read as bespoke instead of just repainted.
One technical note matters more than people expect. Dark colors need a primer tinted to gray underneath them. Skip that and the finish coat never covers the way it should, however many coats go on. That is the difference between a color that looks deep and even and one that looks thin two summers later. We go through all of this with homeowners on every Orlando painting estimate.
