How we work
What separates a paint job that lasts from one that fails in a couple of years?
Two things, mostly. What went on the surface before the color did, and whether the painter was willing to do the slow version.
Start with primer. Paint and primer in one is not a real substitute for priming, and we do not treat it like one. Primer is there to give you a blank canvas on the surface you are about to paint, and the substrate decides which primer you need. Metal takes a different primer than wood. Drywall has a primer in a class of its own. Most paint manufacturers will also only honor the material warranty if the substrate was primed correctly and the coating went on in the right environmental conditions, so skipping that step does not only cost you finish quality, it can cost you the warranty. On a repaint, a conditioner or primer first is what gets you the longest lasting result, whether the job is an interior repaint or warehouse and industrial painting where most of the substrate is metal.
The second one is touch ups. People believe a scuffed wall can be spot painted and feathered out to blend in with the rest of it. It cannot. What you get instead is what we call a Poke-a-Dot finish, and you notice it every time the light in the room changes. The right way to refinish a scuffed area is corner to corner. Sometimes that natural stopping point is a foot away from the scuff and sometimes it is on the other side of the room. Does not matter. The wall gets painted in totality or it does not look right.
